How Do We Diagnose Cancer?
As there are different types of cancer, there are also different
studies to detect its presence. They usually include one or more
of the following tests:
- Physical examination by the doctor.
- Laboratory tests, such as blood or urine tests.
- Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance,
tomography or PET-CT. - Biopsy, which consists of taking a tissue sample to analyze it
and corroborate if it is cancer and what type it is. - Genetic studies, which allow to know in which genes the cancer
is causing mutations, with which the definition of the indicated
treatment is more precise and effective.
Treatments for Cancer
Many facts are considered when defining a treatment: the type of
cancer, its genetic behavior, the stage of the disease, the
patient’s age and his or her health condition are some of the most
important.
Given the current pandemic COVID-19, we want to inform our patients and
their families that Médica Sur counts with response protocols that
guarantee the continuity of the processes and medical care for all our
services in the hospital.
